I updated my driver, even though it should have been current since the compaq is only 2 weeks old. I have been in IT for quite a few years, and see this quite often. All of the sudden, it just started dropping the connections. Check the make and model of the AT&T router, then google it for issues disconnecting. The automated call came, asked me to rate service 1-5 (low to high)- I entered1, and was disconnected!
